Fairbridges is the oldest surviving
law firm in the southern hemisphere. Established in 1812,
it has secured a reputation as a reliable South African firm of outstanding
quality, diverse expertise and ongoing adaptability. The firm carries
on a general practice in most fields of law. In 1985 Fairbridges transformed
itself from a partnership into an incorporated company and
at present has 13 directors, 8 consultants, 2 senior associates
and 6 associates.
The firm has offices in Johannesburg and Cape Town. Apart from its office in the centre of Cape Town, it also has a suburban office in Constantia and enjoys beneficial relationships with firms in Durban. In addition, Fairbridges has
a longstanding relationship with many of the top legal firms in London
and Europe. It is the South African member of an international association
of law firms called Terralex, an international network of independent
law firms that serves the needs of clients whose requirements transcend
national borders.
